The Associate Veterinarian plays a central role in delivering compassionate, high-quality medicine for our patients. This position provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care for companion animals and exotics, while supporting clients through education and clear communication. Our veterinarians work closely with a skilled support team and uphold WBAC’s values of honesty, adaptability, and consistent care.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Care

  • Perform physical exams, diagnose illnesses, and develop treatment plans.
  • Provide medical, surgical, and dental care for small animals and exotics.
  • Prescribe medications and administer vaccines.
  • Collect and interpret diagnostic tests including lab work, radiology, and ultrasound.
  • Administer anesthesia and monitor patients during procedures with support staff.
  • Humanely perform euthanasia when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate patient medical records

Client Service

  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients about diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care.
  • Provide education on nutrition, wellness, and disease prevention.
  • Ensure accurate medical records and follow-up communication.

Team Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with technicians and assistants to ensure high standards of patient care.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members.

Compliance & Professional Development

  • Follow all hospital protocols, OSHA, DEA, and state regulations.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an accredited program.
  • Valid Texas veterinary license in good standing.
  • DEA license (or eligibility).

Work Environment

Full-time and part-time positions are available. Scheduling will be determined through a contract agreement to ensure mutual alignment between the veterinarian and WBAC. Reliable attendance and commitment to patient care are essential.

Veterinarians work closely with clients, patients, and staff in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Courtesy, patience, and professionalism are required at all times.

The Client Care Specialist is often the first and last point of contact for our clients. This role is essential in creating a welcoming atmosphere, supporting the veterinary team, and ensuring that every client feels valued and every pet receives attentive care.

Key Responsibilities

Client Service

  • Warmly greet clients and their pets, ensuring each visit begins with kindness and patience.
  • Answer phones and emails with courtesy, providing accurate information or directing inquiries to the right team member.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments, keeping both client needs and staff availability in mind.
  • Assist clients with check-in, check-out, and payment processing.
  • Provide discharge instructions, medications, and reminders with clarity and care.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate client and patient records in the practice management system.
  • Process daily transactions, balance the cash drawer, and prepare end-of-day reports.
  • File, update, and organize medical records, forms, and communications.
  • Support inventory tracking, mailings, and ordering of supplies when needed.

Team Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians and technicians to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Assist with client follow-ups, reminders, and educational handouts.
  • Uphold WBAC’s policies and contribute to a positive, adaptable workplace culture.

Work Environment

This position requires flexibility, including some evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed. Client Care Specialists spend much of their day on their feet, interacting with clients, pets, and team members. Patience, professionalism, and attentiveness are essential, as this role sets the tone for the client experience at WBAC.

The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) plays a vital role in supporting our veterinarians and ensuring high-quality patient care. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and compassionate communication with clients. From anesthesia monitoring to client education, LVTs help provide consistent, dependable care while creating a positive experience for both pets and their families.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Technical Support

  • Safely handle and restrain animals during exams, treatments, and procedures.
  • Accurately obtain and monitor vitals for patients throughout their stay
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Monitor patients during anesthesia and recovery, including administering fluids and maintaining accurate records.Collect and process laboratory samples; perform routine diagnostics such as bloodwork, urinalysis, and radiographs.
  • Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and equipment for procedures.
  •  Assist in surgical procedures when necessary
  • Provide specialized nursing care for sick or injured animals.

Client Communication & Education

  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients about their pet’s care.
  • Provide instructions for pre-surgical preparation and post-surgical recovery.
  • Educate clients on preventive care, nutrition, medications, and wellness programs.
  • Support product and service recommendations that benefit patient health.

Hospital Support

  • Maintain accurate patient medical records.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of medical supplies when needed.
  • Clean, maintain, and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DEA, and hospital safety protocols.
  • Support the veterinary team with other duties as needed to maintain consistent, high-value care for clients and their pets.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Current Veterinary Technician License (required, in the state of Texas).
  • Prior experience as a Veterinary Technician preferred.

Skills

The Veterinary Assistant supports our doctors and technicians in providing excellent patient care. This role includes handling and monitoring patients, preparing for exams and treatments, assisting with laboratory and surgical procedures, and ensuring a clean and organized hospital environment. Veterinary Assistants also play a key role in client education and communication, helping families feel confident in the care of their pets.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Support

  • Safely restrain animals during exams and procedures with compassion and skill.
  • Obtain accurate patient vitals when necessary
  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in condition promptly.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples, and assist with imaging and in-house diagnostics.

Client Communication

Looking for veterinary hours?

West Brazos Animal Center welcomes volunteers and students who want to learn more about veterinary medicine and animal care. This is an unpaid position designed to provide exposure to the daily operations of a veterinary practice. Volunteers and student shadows will observe our team, assist with basic non-medical tasks, and gain insight into the responsibilities of working in a veterinary setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe veterinarians, technicians, and staff during patient care and daily operations.
  • Assist with cleaning, stocking, and organizing as directed by staff.
  • Support the team with simple tasks that do not involve direct medical care.
  • Demonstrate courtesy and professionalism with clients, staff, and animals at all times.
  • Support the veterinary team with other duties as needed to maintain consistent, high-value care for clients and their pets.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old, unless enrolled in an approved high school program with parental consent.
  • Interest in veterinary medicine, animal care, or customer service.
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain confidentiality.
  • Reliable, professional, and respectful of animals, clients, and staff.

Work Environment

Volunteers and shadows may observe in exam rooms, treatment areas, and client service spaces. This position requires flexibility, attentiveness, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
